ALE HUT – Great Barrier Island

ALE HUT is a minimalistic, seasonal retreat for two, designed to foster a deep connection with the natural environment of Great Barrier Island. The compact hut emphasises comfort, thoughtful storage, and openness to the outdoors, encouraging occupants to disconnect from distractions and fully engage with their surroundings.

All outdoor and water sports equipment is provided on-site, along with guidance on island activities, allowing guests to arrive ready to explore. The design accommodates daytime visitors while maintaining intimacy for overnight stays, with exposed materials celebrating structural honesty.

I designed and built the ALE HUT website to explain the project and stay experience. For the exhibition, I created an interactive display highlighting the island’s remoteness and environmental considerations, inviting viewers to explore ALE HUT’s approach to seasonal, experiential design.
